A weak, damaged or broken tooth is not only unsightly, but it can open the door to many other problems, such as exposing yourself to a higher risk of tooth decay and further damage and/or loss of the tooth completely.
Unlike implants, crowns allow you to keep the root of your tooth. The crown fits above your gums and over the existing tooth-preserving the tooth’s root- to restore the original size, shape, strength and appearance of the damaged tooth.
Have a chat to one of our team about how we can improve the appearance of your smile.
During your first visit, we take impressions of your teeth and match the colour of your crown to the surrounding teeth for a more natural appearance.
Fitting a crown requires two separate appointments.
During your first visit, we take impressions of your teeth and match the colour of your crown to the surrounding teeth for a more natural appearance.
Once your custom made crown is ready, we invite you back for the second appointment where we bond the crown permanently into place.
To avoid any discomfort we use a local anaesthetic to help ensure you feel little to no pain whatsoever. A few patients sometimes experience a small bit of extra sensitivity but it can be easily managed with an over the counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or paracetamol. Generally, though, any discomfort usually goes away on its own in a few days.
Although crowns are mostly used on broken or highly damaged teeth, they are also ideal for treating teeth that are misshapen, discoloured, worn down or have large and unsightly silver fillings. Of course, your dentist will be happy to discuss every option available to you.
The most popular crowns are made from porcelain because they provide a more natural-looking appearance compared to metal or gold crowns. However, your dentist will advise you on the best choice for you and your smile.
