Bridging the Gap

When one or more missing teeth create a gap, the surrounding teeth may be in danger of shifting or rotating into the empty space, which could affect your bite and lead to gum disease or, in some cases, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Bridges can be permanently attached to one or more teeth surrounding the space. Sometimes, when a gap needs to be filled quickly we create a temporary bridge which can help us find the best shape for your final bridge.

The team at Quayside Dental and Implant Centre fill these gaps with a bridge of natural looking porcelain teeth. These are a great alternative to Dental Implants for anyone who, for medical or physical reasons, is not suitable to undergo implant surgery.

FAQs

Is A Bridge The Right Solution For Me?

DO I NEED A BRIDGE?

If you have gaps created by missing teeth, a bridge will reduce the chance of straining the surrounding teeth, which could cause them to shift and create bigger problems. Food and bacteria can also easily get stuck in these gaps and cause decay or gum disease. A bridge will put a stop to these issues, restore your smile, improve your appearance and potentially eliminate the need for a denture.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BRIDGES V. DENTURES?

Bridges, unlike dentures, are permanently fixed in your mouth and look and act more like natural teeth, which makes it much easier to eat foods like fresh vegetables, fruit and crusty bread. Bridges are also more comfortable, easier to clean, take up less space in your mouth and less likely to affect your speech.

On the other hand, dentures need to be removed every day to allow your gums and palate to ‘breathe’ to reduce the chances of disease and further tooth loss.

Your dentist will gladly discuss the pros and cons of dentures and bridges with you before we begin any treatment.

HOW MUCH DOES A DENTAL BRIDGE COST?

The cost of fitting you with a bridge will depend on the type of bridge and the number of teeth on it. As these designs can vary depending on each individual case, your dentist will need to assess which bridge option is best suited to you. The starting cost of a standard bridge is £450.00.
